When the high-energy farmer at QuilBay Seafood's booth told me his new oysters were stress free and didn't have to fight for their food, making their flesh more relaxed and supple, their flavors mellow and clean, I didn't care whether the health department forbids him from serving samples of shucked oysters to customers at farmers markets. Nothing hails spring on the horizon like a farmers-market-fresh poster in my in-box. Tacoma Farmers' Market announced the winner of its 2009 art contest: Noah Struthers’s pencil drawing. The press release follows, and I'm off to transcribe my interview with Cheryl the Pig Lady about her work on a mobile slaughter vehicle that'll bring more local meat to market -- farmers markets and local restaurants included.
