My earlier report about Brix 25 is now official: The Gig Harbor restaurant has new owners. I met new chef-owner Thad Lyman Sunday night at the Star Chefs gala. Stay tuned for details.

A small-plates menu isn't the only new thing at Maxwell's Speakeasy + Lounge. There's a smaller payroll, too: front-of-the-house man Rich Troiani left Maxwell's this week. No word yet on his replacement, but executive chef Matt Colony told me today that he's picking up some of Troiani's administrative duties. Read more

If I overlooked it earlier (since it's been on the market since December, I've learned), I blame it on all the candy-and-stars window paintings that clutter the windows of Herban Cafe, the Sixth Avenue restaurant that is for sale, according two signs I spotted in the windows today: a small one from owners Steve and Gretchen Nogler confirming the sale and a big one from a real estate company advertising the sale. Satellite Coffee Co.'s first satellite location is now open, inside Masa on Sixth Avenue. Meanwhile, Black Water Cafe owner Rachel Morsehead says she will close her downtown Tacoma coffeehouse on Feb. 27 and move into her new location in March. Read more

The Cliff House, the Browns Point restaurant with views of Commencement Bay, Mount Rainier, the Port of Tacoma and the downtown Tacoma skyline -- along with a reputation, in my view, as a restaurant that's stayed mired in another era (think spinster-aunt decor and cherries jubilee) for way too long -- will soon get its fifth owner in its 75-year history.
