Downtown Tacoma restaurant is only South Sound eatery participating in national promotion

"Dine Out -- Take Action." "No Kid Goes Hungry." Those are the tag lines for the Great American Dine Out. The event starts Monday and runs through Saturday. So far, only one South Sound restaurant -- Pacific Grill in Downtown Tacoma -- has taken action. Some restaurants donate a portion of proceeds, others give freebies to customers who donate. Money raised feeds nutrition programs, food banks, and community gardens.  Read more

I pitched in tonight at a fund raiser for Tacoma Deputy Mayor Julie Anderson's campaign for Pierce County Auditor.

No offense to the candidate nor to the strikingly tall county prosecutor and novelist Mark Lindquist, who was in attendance, because I'm sure they'd agree: the biggest political star in the room was Joe Stortini, proprietor of Joeseppi's Italian Ristorante in Tacoma, where the event was held. He's also the host of two Food Network programs, the food-science-sluething "Kitchen Detectives" and "Chopped," which Allen described as "culinary game show" in which the winner walks away with $10,000.  Read more
