The South Sound's farmers market bounty continues to grow, with a new farmers market opening Thursday in Browns Point, northeast Tacoma's waterfront enclave. The Browns Point farmers market will be open from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. every Thursday through Sept. 24 in front of Ace Hardware in the Browns Point Town Center, 1000 Marine View Drive. Read more

As swine flu fears spread, Cheryl the Pig Lady's pork is flying out of her coolers.
"Pork chops, breakfast links -- sold out," Cheryl Ouellette, the Summit pig farmer, told me Saturday at the Proctor Farmers Market in Tacoma. "We're selling like crazy. Everything's fine."

When the high-energy farmer at QuilBay Seafood's booth told me his new oysters were stress free and didn't have to fight for their food, making their flesh more relaxed and supple, their flavors mellow and clean, I didn't care whether the health department forbids him from serving samples of shucked oysters to customers at farmers markets.
