I'm a few spin cycles behind in reading my whacked-out diva RSS feed, but I just got whiff of this and wanted to tell you that I've got a few things in common with Sarah Palin. First off, we were born on the same day, one year apart. Second off, you can pay to have dinner with her and you can pay to have dinner with me. Our prices are as far apart as I could be from Palin's politics. Read more

Maybe you've noticed recent changes at South Sound Eats, like our Meal Ticket gift certificates and some new videos. South Sound Eats is also changing headquarters. Meet me at The Grand for a Food, Inc. conversation on Sunday
I'll lead a post-movie discussion on Suday

First you should read Soren Andersen's review of "Food, Inc.," a South Sound Eats exclusive. Then you should attend Sunday's 7 p.m. screening at The Grand Cinema in Tacoma. Afterward, I'll lead a discussion of the documentary that probes the ugly side of industrial food production in America. To sweeten the deal, I'll serve vegan and gluten-free sweets from Corina Bakery. The weeklong engagement of "Food, Inc." is a fund-raiser for the Tacoma Food Coop: $1 from every ticket sold will go the budding grocery store effort.

I stood on the chalk outline of Satellite Coffee Co.'s second satellite coffee bar Tuesday night. It was no downtown death scene. Rather, it was the birth of an interesting idea, a barn-raising way of raising money in depressing times. Read more
