A small-plates menu isn't the only new thing at Maxwell's Speakeasy + Lounge. There's a smaller payroll, too: front-of-the-house man Rich Troiani left Maxwell's this week. No word yet on his replacement, but executive chef Matt Colony told me today that he's picking up some of Troiani's administrative duties. Read more

Life handed me a load of Meyer lemons this week. The first thing I did was stock up on eggs, butter and sugar for the Meyer lemon curd tart I'm making and taking to a party tomorrow night. The next thing I did was celebrate; I invited two Tacoma bartenders to help. Read more

Bartenders and servers work for tips. This time of year, El Gaucho mixmistress Silvia Tapia works for sick kids as well. For the past eight years, Tapia has plied her cocktail talents and encouraged her customers to donate toys that she delivers to hospitalized children on Christmas Day. Read more
