Tacoma's new food-inspired book club holds its first of monthy book discussion Thursday night at Kings Books. Ravenous Readers Book Club, spearheaded by Kings Books and Exit133.com's Whitney Rhodes, will explore sustainable issues near and dear to South Sound Eats' stomach: growing food locally, the impact of commercial agriculture, and growing communities.

I spent two hours this morning at Tacoma Public Libray's downtown Main Library in a meeting room with about 30 local food activists, educators, farmers and policy people talking about a book -- Barbara Kingsolver's acclaimed "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life" -- and how our community can create programs and events that bring people together around the food we eat, share and, hopefully, grow.
